Building Community Through Print: The Story of Alexander Printing Co

February 11, 2026 - Everett, WA

Outside the Alexander Printing Co shop

Walk into Alexander Printing Co on any given day, and you might catch a whiff of something distinct - the rich, unmistakable aroma of printing inks and solvents. For owner Brett Wynne, that smell is pure nostalgia, transporting him back to childhood days spent exploring his father's print shop.

"Lots of people either love that smell or hate it," Brett says with a laugh. He's definitely in the former camp.

Today, Brett runs the same business his father purchased in 1978, a company with roots stretching back to 1886. His father still comes in for a few hours each day to print using the older equipment, including the Original Heidelberg Platen Press, a testament to both the enduring quality of these machines and the family's dedication to their craft.

Brett didn't expect to end up at the print shop. After playing soccer at Everett Community College, he transferred to Central Washington University to pursue a law and justice degree with dreams of a career in law enforcement. But life had other plans. Marriage, a house, and a baby on the way made him realize that a steady job would be better for raising a family. In 1999, he joined his father at Alexander Printing Co, and he hasn't looked back.

"We have to be versatile in what we can do here. It's not just printing paper," Brett explains.

That versatility shows in everything from custom business cards to promotional items, all backed by two talented in-house graphic designers who can turn a simple concept or color scheme into something fantastic.

Like many local businesses, Alexander Printing Co took a hit during the pandemic, but Brett is glad they're close to pre-pandemic levels of business. His message to potential customers who might default to ordering from nationwide online competitors?

"We can be competitive with pricing, our graphic designers create unique designs better than online templates, customers can feel the paper before ordering, and our face-to-face service is unmatched."

Community has always been central to Brett's approach to business. He used to coach for his two sons' soccer and lacrosse teams, and he regularly gives back by donating uniforms and print services to local youth leagues. He also works with nonprofits, offering discounts and in-kind services whenever possible.

With the World Cup watch parties coming to Everett this summer, Brett is particularly energized. His shop is ready to produce an array of signage, banners, and printed advertising for local businesses wanting to capitalize on the excitement. His sports background and deep knowledge of Everett make Alexander Printing Co the ideal partner for these projects.

Brett is a true family man who treasures time with his wife, his two sons, and his daughter-in-law. Whether they're gathered around the table, traveling together, or simply enjoying everyday moments, family always comes first for him. He loves spending time outdoors - especially fishing, hunting, and relaxing in Plain, Washington at his family cabin. For Brett, there's nothing better than fresh mountain air, quiet mornings, and making memories with the people he loves most.

From that little kid enchanted by printing presses to a business owner preserving a 138-year legacy while serving his community, Brett Wynne embodies the best of local entrepreneurship: quality craftsmanship, personal service, and a genuine commitment to the place he calls home.
